An author sifting through his mail is intrigued by an unusual package. It consists of several pages, and was written by someone apparently unknown to him. On reading it he finds more than he bargained for. What a bizarre tale of obsession!

Incredible how Zweig managed to capture in a novella so much emotion, so many feelings, that others cannot in 500 pages. What a story!

I will tell you the whole story of my life, and it is a life that truly began only on the day I met you. Before that, there was nothing but murky confusion into which my memory never dipped again, some kind of cellar full of dusty, cobwebbed, sombre objects and people. - Stefan Zweig, Letter from an Unknown WomanI dont really understand monomania and its very uncomfortable yet fascinating to read about the case in this novella. A famous author reads an anonymous letter addressed to him, the

Bettie's Books

Zweig takes us into the life and mind of a woman who is writing a letter to a famous author telling him about the long years shes been in love with him.for him, she was only a nameless woman, a casual adventure which leaves no trace when it is over.she wants him to recognize her love through years, and feel her existence.it's a dramatic story, but Zweig has an amazing ability to convey emotions, and his style of writing is very sensational.

Its women readers gave this more 4's and 5's so I guess it may be possible for a woman to love like that. A love that starts young, never would grow old, and demands so very little in return--only a fleeting recognition would be enough and when even that is denied her would rather die than go on with life.I am not a writer or a libertine, on the other hand, but insofar as the male protagonist here is concerned I find it hard to believe, no matter how many different women had warmed a man's bed,

Didnt like it! This is mental illness not love.
