Relation Toward Books Too Close to Home

Linwood Barclay, critically acclaimed author of No Time for Goodbye, brings terror closer than ever before in a thriller where murder strikes in the place we feel safest of all. Promise Falls isn't the kind of community where a family is shot to death in their own home. But that is exactly what happened to the Langleys one sweltering summer night, and no one in this small upstate New York town is more shocked than their next-door neighbors, Jim and Ellen Cutter. They visited for the occasional barbecue, and their son, Derek, was friends with the Langleys' boy, Adam; but how well did they really know their neighbors? That's the question Jim Cutter is asking, and the answers he's getting aren't reassuring. Albert Langley was a successful, well-respected criminal lawyer, but was he so good at getting criminals off that he was the victim of revenge? A debt his innocent family also paid in blood? From the town's criminally corrupt mayor to the tragic suicide of a talented student a decade before, Promise Falls has more than its share of secrets. And Jim Cutter, failed artist turned landscaper, need look no further than his own home and his wife Ellen's past to know that things aren't always what they seem. Suddenly the Cutters must face the unthinkable: that a murderer isn't just stalking too close to home but is inside it already. For the Langleys weren't the first to die and they won't be the last.

Comment On Out Of Books Too Close to Home
This is a very well written book. It's plotted in a way as to hold the attention and I can see where this story could have bogged down and become a bit wandering. Mr. Barclay takes what could have been almost cliched and constructs a well thought out, well "characterized" (and in this case I use that word to mean that the characters are full enough to get to know and know about without leaving us "over-informed") and again well plotted.I had a few small moments when I thought that the characters

It's long. And at the very end I was pulled to give it a 3 star, but it was so entertaining that I just couldn't. 3.5 star rounded up.First, these characters were not the usual suburban or rural small town dysfunction that's so currently endemic. Oh they are "off", but they have more depth. And Derek, the 17 year old, he was especially closer to the real teens I know. And even some of them I love. Only the Mom, Ellen, gave me some pause. But then again- she's not the only woman with a history of

I'm clearly in the minority here, but I did not enjoy this book. It starts off strong, but peters out fast. Most of the storyline hinges on people inexplicably withholding important information, or on the police being so inept that they choose to focus on exactly the wrong thing while ignoring the giant FACT that's right in front of their faces. It's like a soap opera, where the villains are practically twirling their mustaches, but miraculously avoiding any scrutiny whatsoever, and normal guys

Another great read...

Really bad. Tempted to give it an extra star because one very annoying character got their comeuppance at the end, but tbh it's lucky to get even one.If you don't guess who dunnit by pg.330 then you're really not trying. Introducing a new character over two thirds of the way in is just poor plotting - the guy should have been in the opening chapters so he could be cleared of suspicion in time for the denoument - eg, by having him mistaken for an investigative journalist. The author even set it

I really enjoyed this book. The story is fast paced and it is not long before you are turning pages quickly to find out what is happening next. I have now read several Linwood Barclay books and he never fails to deliver.Too Close to Home is a great thriller that was highly enjoyable throughout. The book was full of twists and turns and read the book in a couple of sittings as I didn't want to put it down.

My first novel by Linwood Barclay and it was a real page turner. It starts with the triple murder of the Langley family in a quiet neighbourhood in a small town and it was hard to work out which way it was going to go. Were the family of three murdered because of the father, Albert Langley's job as a lawyer or was something else going on? Everyone is puzzled as to the motive and who the killers might have been and Barclay keeps us guessing until late in the book. Most of the story is told
