He calls it "Krakatit," after the Indonesian volcano Krakatoa. A special feature of Krakatit is that erupts seemingly without cause. After an accident in the laboratory an exhausted Prokop tumbles into Prague when he meets Tomes, who takes him into his care.

Čím víc Čapka čtete, tím víc se vám líbí. Empiricky ověřeno. Krakatit jsem znovu zvedl prvně od střední školy, takže vlastně jako by to bylo poprvé. Hlavní linka se točí kolem vědeckého pokroku a jeho zneužitelnosti, to tady asi nemusím omílat, ale mně přišly stejně zajímavé všechny účinkující ženy, které s Prokopem i dějem zmítají víc než Krakatit. Každá z nich přitom reprezentuje kromě určitého typu ženy také nějaký segment společnosti (Anči venkov/prostotu/náboženství, princezna

Capek escribe muy bien, no es un autor de género, así que la krakatita ocupa un segundo plano en las aventuras del protagonista. Probably the weirdest book I've ever read. Found it at a thrift store and was intended to make a secret compartment for my liquor bottle in it, but decided to read it instead. The first twenty pages or so is like reading how "Scream" by Edward Munch feels like. And then it gets weirder and more confusing. Maybe it would be better if I read it a second time..
