another 3.5 rating. i actually didnt like this as much as other Hobb fans but i did still enjoy reading it. i have a huge problem with authors who kill off animals and pets instead of working up the nerve to kill off characters. i havent read enough of this author's work to make that judgment call but it sure seemed like it in this book. that having been said i really couldnt put this book down near its end. it grew tense and exciting and i really couldnt have told you exactly how it would end.

My first attempt at Robin Hobb sent me back to those good old days of reading escapist fantasy without doing much else in my life. Go back, get away from the grimdark bloodletting of other royal houses and see what the Farseers are up to. Very enjoyable.

Let me start off by saying that I liked these first two books in the series. A lot. I would have appreciated it if more was explained about Skilling in the first book, and what its limits are. That said, before I started reading this, I always thought it'd be a darker story, with an older character and some quest for revenge. Maybe someone can write a decent fan-fiction in that setting. Nonetheless, I really liked the story and I can't wait to start reading the 3rd one. Good job, Robin.

A bit of a boring and slow story. Not bad but little action and too much dwelling on feeeelings all the time, while the story doesn't really get clear.

Loved it. I'm amazed at the difference between this series, and the Rainwilds series. Fitz is a character that you feel empathy for, that you sit there and wonder how he is going to solve his problems, and that you can't wait to get back to when you're interrupted. The Rain Wild series doesn't seem to have the same depth of character, although, I've read enough now to know they're related, so perhaps reading this series will give some insight into that one. I'm very happy that I received an ARC

It's my Everest! Haven't read anything longer, BUT it's goddamn worth it! It's fantastic in every way, from characters to the plot. The world-building is phenomenal😍 I'm in love with Robin Hobbs writing! I love her so much I don't mind reading thousands of pages written by her about this amazing world. Can't wait to start the third part 😍😍😍

assassin's apprentice - 5royal assassin - 4,5 only because most of the deaths and disasters would not have happened if they had killed Regal in the very beginning
